This guide is mostly for Openserve customers who would like to do a cabled speed test directly in the fibre box / ONT using a laptop or PC. This test will rule out problems with the router, which usually handles the PPPoE session.
Once you have configured your Atomic PPPoE login on your laptop (see steps below), you can connect the laptop with an Ethernet cable to the ONT and do a regular speed test or an iPerf test.

Steps to Configure a PPPoE login on Windows:
- Open Network Settings:
- Go to Network & Internet > Dial-up (you may need to scroll down to find it).
- Set Up a New Connection:
- Click on Set up a new connection or Connect to the Internet (the exact wording depends on your Windows version, e.g., Windows 10 or 11).
- In the wizard that opens, select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next.
- Enter ISP Credentials:
- In the next window, fill in the following details:
- Username: Enter the username (usually in the format AAx-nnnnnn)
- Password: Enter the password
- Connection name: Give the connection a name (e.g., “Atomic PPPoE”) – this is just for your reference.
- Check the box for Remember this password.
- Click Connect.

Steps to Configure a PPPoE login on macOS:
- Open Network Settings:
- Click the Apple menu (top-left corner) and select System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).
- Go to Network.
- Add a New Connection:
- In the Network window, click the + button, or select ‘Add Service’ from the dropdown menu.
- In the pop-up:
- Interface: Select PPPoE from the dropdown menu.
- Ethernet: Choose the Ethernet port you’re using, “Ethernet” or “Thunderbolt Ethernet”
- Service Name: Enter a name for the connection, “Atomic PPPoE”)
- Click Create.
- Enter ISP Credentials:
- If you click Connect it should prompt you for your PPPoE password
- Name: Input the username, usually in the format AAx-nnnnnn
- Password: Input the password
- If you click Connect it should prompt you for your PPPoE password
